This summer’s can’t - miss fun and thrills
Hot days and cool, cool nights. Summer in Alberta is when things really come alive. Feel free to join the non-stop action.
01 The Calgary Stampede
Put on your cowboy boots and jump into the fun with both feet. For 10 days in July, Calgary transforms into one big western-themed party. Head for the stampede rodeo to take in the action. Then hit the Stampede Grounds to catch the fun and fireworks. Still not tired? Whoop it up at one of the live music venues that run late into the night.
02 Summer road trips
Adventure is calling on Alberta’s highways and byways. Hit the road and discover everything the province has to offer. Fans of The Last of Us will want to visit the Alberta locations where it was filmed. Those who want to explore incredible landscapes should head for the Badlands. If you want to get a taste of urban life and natural wonders, we have the itinerary for that, too.
03 Outdoor recreation
Alberta’s landscape has a timeless beauty. But people are alway searching for new ways to have outdoor fun. Try luxury glamping or river surfing.
The Rocky Mountains offer paddling adventures, scenic hikes and fantastic camping. For a once-in-a-lifetime experience, head for the Mt Norquay Via Ferrata. Those looking for a more sedate but memorable experience can head for the famous Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House.
There’s also plenty to explore beyond the mountain parks. The Alberta Badlands feature out-of-this-world landscapes and ghost towns. Those who take “out-of-this-world” literally, will want to chase the aurora borealis across the northern skies.
04 Indigenous experiences
Immerse yourself in ancient cultures that are new to you. There’s no better way to get a sense of this place we call home than by meeting the people who have the deepest understanding of it. An Indigenous cultural site, a road trip built around visiting Indigenous businesses and cultural interpreters or a visit to an Indigenous-owned ranch will make for an unforgettable taste of Alberta.
05 Foodie hotspots
Wherever you travel in Alberta, you’ll find great food and drink. Check out Major Tom, the latest Calgary restaurant to become the talk of the town. Edmonton foodies flock to RGE RD, so join the locals for a celebration of local ingredients. If you’re on a road trip, you’ll want to visit a farm-to-table dinner or a craft brewery like Lacombe’s Blindman Brewing.
