Travel by air
Alberta has three international airports serviced by 14 major airlines. YYC Calgary International Airport and Edmonton International Airport (YEG) are the largest and most popular choices among international visitors. Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM) offers more select routes.
YYC Calgary International Airport
Calgary has the largest airport in Alberta, located 17 km (10.6 mi) from downtown Calgary. It’s the third-busiest airport in Canada, with service to more than 80 destinations worldwide and 18 million passengers served annually.
Edmonton International Airport (YEG)
This is Canada’s fifth-busiest airport, located approximately 28.3 km (17.6 mi) from downtown Edmonton. The airport, known as YEG, serves 8.2 million passengers every year and offers non-stop flights to more than 50 destinations around the globe.

Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM)
The smallest of Alberta’s international airports, located 13 km (8.1 mi) southeast of the northern city of Fort McMurray, offers flights to seven non-stop destinations including Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Fort Chipewyan and seasonal flights to Tuscon, Arizona.

Travel by car
There are many ways to navigate Alberta by car. Start by accessing Google Maps and keying in your destination for the most efficient route and approximate drive times. The weather in Alberta can change quickly, so always check road conditions before heading out.

Travel by bus
Bus routes throughout Alberta are primarily served by Red Arrow, with major pick-up points in cities such as Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge and Red Deer. Visitors can also travel from the Calgary airport to Banff National Park and from Edmonton to Jasper National Park via bus shuttle services.

Both airports offer taxi and ride-share services, like Uber. There are designated pick-up points at each airport. There is currently no LRT access to and from either airport.
Renters need to be at least 21 years of age, and they’ll be required to provide a valid driver’s license and credit card. Security deposits can be higher for drivers who are under 25, and licenses issued in other countries are valid for 12 months.
