At Cold Lake Provincial Park, the lake is the star of the show, and the surrounding forest and lagoon make for even more fun on day trips and camping trips. The lake is a popular spot for sandy beach fun and paddling. Most of the park’s 117 campsites have power or power and water hookups, plus there are 12 more secluded walk-in sites. On summer nights, you might spot fireflies sparkling in the dark. With more than 200 species of birds in the area, including pelicans, grebes, loons and cormorants, make sure to pick up a birding checklist from the Alberta Parks booth at the campground and take a walk through the boreal forest surrounding Hall’s Lagoon. Use the boat launch in town and go fishing, including walleye, pike, and lake trout. Or bring your own canoe—it’s the best way to potentially see a moose out for a swim.
